Strong Winds Easing In Parts Of The Group And Coastal Flood Warning Cancelled

For people living along the southern coastal parts of Fiji and those navigating Fiji Waters.

A high pressure system to the southeast of Fiji directs fresh to strong southeast wind flow over the country.

Consequently, A Strong Wind Warning remains in force for all Fiji waters.

A Strong Wind Warning remains in force for land areas of northern Vanua Levu, Kadavu, Yasawa and Mamanuca group, Lau and Lomaiviti group.

Fresh to strong southeasterly winds with average speed up to 55 kilometres per hour prevailing over northern Vanua Levu, Kadavu, Yasawa and Mamanuca group, Lau and Lomaiviti group.

Winds of this strength can cause large tree branches to sway, whistling in wires, impedes walking and make it difficult to use umbrellas.

Over open waters, sea conditions are potentially hazardous for small crafts. Inexperienced mariners, especially those operating smaller vessels should avoid navigating in these conditions.

Strong winds expected to gradually ease over the land areas from later today.

The strong wind warning previously in force for the land areas of southern Viti Levu is now cancelled.

Similarly, the coastal flood warning previously in force for coastal areas of the southern parts of Viti Levu (from Natadola through to Coral Coast to Pacific Harbour to Suva), southern coastal areas of Mamanuca Group, Beqa, Kadavu, Vatulele, Moala Group, Lomaiviti Group and the Southern Lau Group has been cancelled.

The current situation is closely monitored. Members of the public are advised to remain updated with the latest weather information.
