Naira Shah shows her poster depicting COVID-19 protocols that must be followed.

Seven-year-old Naira Shah is leading the way for her family in Lovu, Lautoka.

The Year 2 student of Lautoka Muslim Primary School always had the passion to draw.

Through her interest she thought to use it at a time when Fiji was going through devastation with the global COVID-19 pandemic.

Her latest artwork, a poster created in light of the COVID-19 protocols to be followed, speaks a thousand words.

Though young as she is, she is knowledgeable of the virus and pleads, together with her family, for all Fijians to strictly follow the protocols for the safety of everyone, especially, children.

Her mother, Nazmin Shah, a teacher at Lautoka Andhra Sangam College said she was proud to see that her youngest daughter was taking a lead role in educating her family through art.

Ms Shah said Naira also had an interest with the support from her two sisters to make posters and create awareness.

“She is a gifted child and self-starter and she always talks about COVID-19 protocols to be followed every day,” she said.

“Naira also knows words related to COVID-19 like distancing, hygiene, mask and sanitiser.”

She said even in the household she keeps an eye on the family members to constantly wash their hands.

“Naira knows that regular washing of hands for 20 seconds after visiting the washroom or working in the vegetable or flower garden must be followed,” she added.

“As a mother I feel privileged and inspired by her beautiful thoughts at a tender age to create awareness to stop the spread of the virus in Fiji and bring things to normalcy again.”

Ms Shah and her family are also helping Fiji fight the disease by getting vaccinated.
