Opportunities Over Lockdowns

Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama says he will not grow tired of projecting the message of hope during this second wave of COVID-19 in Fiji.

While speaking on the Lalakai radio programme yesterday, he said the Government has chosen to provide opportunities over lockdowns.

“We have built a wall of defiance against naysayers, and we will continue to win,” Mr Bainimarama said.

“And we have the evidence to back this up. The church has stood firm. The vanua has rallied its people. The Government will continue to reach out to all Fijians furthest behind. We have not closed our doors. And nor must you.”

He warned Fijians to be careful of people with unworthy motives during this pandemic who only wanted to profit politically.

“Some have done the most criminal act of trying to gain political mileage from this pandemic. I have no time for such activities,” he said.

“I only have time to care for you, and manifest this through the various programs Government is pushing. With God’s help, these are plans to prosper you, to give you hope.

“I will not grow tired of projecting this message of hope because the end of all this is near.”

He said people who discouraged others from getting vaccinated because it’s their right were confined to their little world and can’t see beyond their noses.

Mr Bainimarama thanked church leaders, medical professionals, Roko Tui’s and traditional chiefs for uniting behind the vaccine and promoting it.

He said underpinning all this effort was the vaccination drive by frontline workers.

“During this pandemic, I can confidently say that there are loyal, dedicated, patriotic Fijians who have stood firm – who have not “bowed” to the voices of confusion, spreading lies, spreading conspiracy theories, painting a picture of the gloom of doom.”

At least, 309,293 Fijians have received their first jab which is 53 per cent of Fiji’s target population while 49,876 Fijians have received their second jab – 8.5 per cent of the target population.
