84 Arrested For Not Wearing Masks In Public

Eighty-four people were arrested over the last 24-hour period for failing to wear a mask in a public place within a containment or lockdown zone as Police step up on the enforcement of the mandatory wearing of masks.
The 84 were arrested over the last 24hours as Police step up on enforcing the mandatory wearing of mask as well as other health and curfew restrictions.
Other reports included nine cases for breach of social gathering and five for breach of curfew which made up 98 cases in total.
The Southern Division recorded the highest number of cases with 76 reports.
Sixty-six cases for failure to wear mask, six for social gathering and four for breach of curfew
The arrests for failing to wear a mask were recorded in Narere, Makoi, Kinoya, Nadawa, Tacirua, Newtown, Nepani, Laqere, Cunningham, Samabula, Tamavua, Samabula, Raiwaqa, Lami and Nabua.
The Eastern Division recorded ten reports and all were for failure to wear a mask.
Nine men were arrested in Nausori Town while a businessman was arrested in Sawani.
The Central Division recorded eight cases and all were for failure to wear a mask.
The arrests were made in Suva, Nasese and Toorak.
The Western Division recorded four cases, one for breach of curfew and three for social gathering.
Three men were drinking alcohol at the Ba Market while a 54-year old plumber was arrested in Tavua during curfew hours whilst returning from a kava session.
Police continue to enforce the mandatory wearing of masks in a public place within a containment or lockdown zone, failure to do so will result in arrest.
