Acting Commissioner of Police Rusiate Tudravu says Police officers are ready to use the infringement notice once all administration issues are completed.

This was after Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama announced the new penalties would take effect tomorrow.

Fijians will be fined on the spot if they are found mucking about in public without a mask, do not comply with the curfew hours, if patrons of a business are not wearing a mask, they will be fined and so will their business, holding any social gathering, playing contact sports, violating a home quarantine or isolation order, consume kava or liquor with others outside of your home, and if they leave a containment area.

Mr Bainimarama said Police, designated staff of the Ministry of Commerce, Trade, Tourism and Transport and the Fijian Competition and Consumer Commission would be given powers to enforce these new penalties.

Mr Tudravu said they were waiting for the Ministry of Health on the publication of infringement notice. He added that they would continue to arrest people who broke the notices in the meantime.
