A 47-year-old man who suffers from asthma feels the COVID-19 vaccine has helped with his asthmatic health condition.

However, Minister for Health and Medical Services Doctor Ifereimi Waqainabete said he was yet to confirm if the vaccine had any positive effects on asthmatic patients.

Amaan Ram from Nadi received his first AstraZeneca vaccine on June 28, he later shared on social media how the vaccine helped him.

He now claims he had some kind of a healing experience.

“It was not only me who was suffering from asthma, my two other brothers were asthmatic too. I didn’t want to get vaccinated because of the videos of magnets, bulbs and other frightening videos on Facebook,” he said.

He said after his two brothers were vaccinated, they felt a change in their health condition, the breathing problems they once had, was no more.

“From their testimony, I just couldn’t wait to get vaccinated.”

He said he no longer experienced shortness of breath.

Litia Waqanilotu, who got vaccinated last week also shared her experience on social media.

“At first I was scared of the vaccine knowing full well my existing medical condition.”

According to Ms Waqanilotu, she never regretted the decision to get vaccinated.

“It has been four days since I stopped using my inhaler, which is something I use every day. I have not experience any shortness of breath like before”.

She said she had been suffering from asthma for about 20-years and her family were still in shock after learning she had not suffered from the condition for some time now.

Mikaele Ravuiwasa who also made a comment on social media has said that many elderly villagers in his village with asthmatic problems shared similar sentiments.

Meanwhile, Dr Waqainabete said: “That is news to me. If that’s the case, I’ve yet to confirm it but certainly the fact that the vaccination is being embraced by a large number of the population is something that personally I’m very gratified about.”

He added that everyone must be vaccinated.

“If you look at the profile of those that have passed on, significantly those that are passing on are those that haven’t been vaccinated and they are also the elderly population”.
