Neha Kumar says her recovery from COVID-19 was through clearing her mindset and tuning out negative information.

The 29-year-old had only received her first dose of the AstraZeneca vaccine when she tested COVID-19 positive.

She received her medical clearance on July 16, but she recalled the ordeal she went through in the initial stages of her contracting the virus.

She said she had to self-isolate at her home in Namadi,Suva, as she began to feel sick on June 28.

But says she was glad that she had already received her first dose of the vaccine.

“I was all fine throughout the weekend, I went shopping on a Saturday and on Sunday I had a really sharp headache. I started to get sore throat and in the night I had cold shivers and fever,” she said.

She said she was swabbed on June 30, then later notified on July 2 that she had tested positive for COVID-19.

She had fever and later in the week, realised she could not smell anything, she was scared.

“While I was sick, I tried to keep away from the news, because the first six days, when I was watching it, I started to feel scared.

“So I decided not to watch it and focus on getting better.”

She said on her 12th day, she regained her sense of taste and smell.

She was also surprised that her brother, who was fully vaccinated, did not contract the virus.

“I believe in the vaccine because it works,” she said.
