About 70 per cent of the target population on Rabi Island in Cakaudrove had received their first AstraZeneca jab, confirmed the Rabi Island Council of Leaders acting executive director Tokannuka Tumairang yesterday.
He said their second jab was due in September.
“There are about 5000 people on the island looked after by one doctor and two nurses,” Mr Tumairang said.
“Everyone on the island understands the importance of vaccination and are encouraged to be vaccinated to keep the island COVID-19 free.”
He said the island was once on lockdown for 14 days when the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic began.
“Since April 20 everyone on the island has been strictly following the COVID-19 protocols,” he said.
