Twenty students from Basden College in Newtown, Nasinu will now be able to access online classes after a ‘Good Samaritan’ living in the United States of America offered a helping hand.

Through his generosity, former Fiji resident, Ambed Prasad from California, has made it possible for Year 13 students at the college to be part of the e-learning programme.

College principal Mohammed Saiyaz Khan said he had enlightened Mr Prasad on the background of his students and the obstacles in delivering classes for all. Schools have remained closed after the COVID-19 outbreak in April and studies have taken a new turn with online and Zoom classes replacing face-to-face learning.

Mr Khan said the online classes were very important for all Year 13 students. It was also important for those who were unable to afford devices and were missing out on classes.

“I am really thankful to Ambed Prasad for thinking about my students and this gesture shows that his heart is still in Fiji and him very many cares about the people of our beloved Fiji,” Mr Khan said.

“On behalf of the Anglican Church education director, board, and staff members, I sincerely thank Mr Prasad for supporting our college. This is a timely assistance and will be beneficial to my students.”

Mr Khan said Mr Prasad had promised more help.

The Ministry of Education has been collating data through schools on the service provider used by Year 13 students for connectivity. Students in Year 13 and tertiary institutes will be given $20 worth of data each month
