Bus Shelter For 2000-Plus Commuters In Laqere Area

More than 2000 commuters of the Laqere area in Labasa will no longer have to brave the rain or hot sun while waiting for public transport.
Yesterday, Divisional Police Commander (DPC) North Senior Superintendent of Police Tomasi Bulimaibau, opened the newly constructed bus shelter at Laqere.
As chief guest, he thanked the Laqere Crime Prevention Committee for building the shelter.
“Members of the committee told me they had built a shelter in 2018, but children still got wet,” SSP Bulimaibau said. “To accommodate more people from Bulavou, Laqere, Nukunuku and Tabia, the committee approached the Seaqaqa Police Station and Digicel Fiji Limited for help.”
He commended their combined effort and thoughts for future generations. Committee secretary Jakir Hussein thanked Digicel Fiji Limited for giving $1800 to fund the project.
“To build a proper standard shelter with tiles as flooring, I took out $300 from my pocket,” Mr Hussein said.
The committee formed in 2018 and has 20 members. This is their first project, which took five days to build.
They also installed a solar light near the shelter.
