The Northern Division has recorded its latest COVID-19 positive case at Nabouwalu, Bua.

Labasa Hospital Medical Superintendent Dr Jaoji Vulibeci said the man had been transferred to the Malau Isolation facility along with his family, who were kept at the quarantine facility of the building.

Dr Vulibeci said the man’s household members had so far tested negative for the virus.

“So far, we have only one active case while the other four cases prior to this have recovered,” he said.

In a statement released by the Ministry of Health and Medical Services, they confirmed that the man was working at the Nabouwalu wharf and contracted the virus while on-board a ship unloading cargo from Suva earlier last week.

The person tested positive during a routine swabbing of wharf workers.

Primary contacts have all been quarantined with their test results pending. This includes workplace contacts.

The Ministry also stated these individuals had been quarantined with their test results pending.

Meanwhile, Police spokesperson Ana Naisoro stated that Police presence had been increased in the North even before the confirmation of the positive case.

“This was all done as a proactive measure,” Ms Naisoro reiterated.

She added their officers would ensure all protocols were followed as a positive case was now among their midst.
