Concerns raised by cane growers have been brought up to the Fiji Sugar Corporation (FSC) management board.

Sugar Cane Growers Council chief executive officer Vimal Dutt said.

“The Council has received grievances regarding mill performance from the growers.”

Growers and lorry drivers outside Lautoka Mill on Friday showed dissatisfaction with the mill performance.

Cane gang leader for Nawai Backroad, Pardip Kumar said the crush was slow.

“Our average turnaround time is from 12 hours to 24 hours – sometimes even exceeding that,” he said.

In an earlier interview with SunBiz, FSC chief executive officer said FSC was challenged with the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Due to COVID-19 pandemic, some key members of our operations team are in isolation.

“However, we are doing our best with alternative options to ensure business is run without disruptions,” Mr Singh said.
