Sigatoka River Dredging Equipment Now On Sale

Dredging equipment that was used for the Sigatoka River is on sale.
The move by China Railway First Group (Fiji) Co. Pte Limited followed the successful completion of dredging of the Sigatoka River project, said spokesman Vishal Naidu.
Mr Naidu said the fact that there were no more projects to work on, prompted the decision to sell the assets.
He said most employees of China Railway First Group (Fiji) Co. Pte Ltd had returned to China, while the remaining local staff members worked from home.
On sale are the dredger, anchor boat and accessories.
According to an advertisement in the Fiji Sun, the equipment will be available for inspection today to November 5, at Sigatoka.
The sale offer closes on November 6, 2021.
Dredging at the Sigatoka River was planned under the Land and Water Resource Management Division, then under the Ministry of Agriculture, in 2016 to 2018.
Earlier reports said the dredging was for flood mitigation purposes that aimed to protect the valley vegetable farmers.
The Sigatoka River dredging, which took place from Melrose Bridge to the river mouth, was reported to cost slightly over $5 million dollars, it was reported.
