Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama is assuring all Fijians that more government assistance is on the way.

Speaking on Radio Fiji One’s (the iTaukei programme) Nai Lalakai yesterday he said his government was all about action despite critics continuing to judge government.

“To those who keep telling us that we must put our mouth where our money is, look no further. While they judge, we do the action. My Government is all about action,” Mr Bainimarama said.

“We promised, and we have delivered. And that is just the tip of the iceberg. More assistance is coming your way.

“Our assistance is not only aimed at helping you but also to empower you. The assistance we have given you, supports the reform we continue to roll out even at the strategic level, like legislation changes.”

Apart from the highly successful vaccination roll out led by the Ministry of Health and Medical Services, government has approved unemployment cash assistance to 260,000 Fijians.

Of that number, he said 33,103 applicants were rejected because they had not received their first dose of the vaccine.

These Fijians have until Friday 27th August to get their first jab.

Food Ration Packs

To date;

  • 12,281 packs have been delivered to Fijians in home isolation in Navua, Lami, Suva, Nasinu and Nausori areas,

A total of 29,994 groceries and essential items have been distributed to those in targeted lockdown and home isolation and 52,494 ration, grocery, essential items and household packs have been distributed by Government.

“We are inching closer to the finish line. It’s not far. We will get there. Let’s keep the faith that in the end we will triumph.”

Vaccination Update

As of 20th August;

  • 541,611 have received their first jab – 92.3 per cent
  • 228,799 have been fully vaccinated – 39 per cent
  • 21,825 have recovered
  • 20,591 are in isolation
  • 432 have succumbed to COVID-19.

From the date shown, Mr Bainimarama said there is a shift and Fiji is moving towards flattening the curve.

“We see more positives than negatives. In any battle, we must amplify the positives because they are our source of hope.

He is hopeful that Fiji will reach the target of 80per cent fully vaccination in two months.
