Fire Destroys Six Office Rooms In Nadi

Six office rooms at Waimalika in Nadi was destroyed in a fire yesterday.
The property was recently built and belongs to Best Fish and Chips restaurant owner, Ashwan Singh.
Mr Singh claims that the fire was allegedly spread from a neighbour who was cooking using firewood.
“I was not at home. My wife called me and said the next-door neighbour was doing some cooking on firewood and that is how it spreads,” he alleged.
“She said when she came out of the house, she saw the fire and asked the neighbours if they could help put water on it.”
“I think the pressure of the water was not that high so they couldn’t manage. We then called the fire brigade and halfway through the fire they came.”
“Lucky nobody was present inside as all offices as it were closed on Sunday,” he added.
Mr Singh said the estimated damage was $70,000.
Police said investigations into the matter were under as well.
Meanwhile, the National Fire Authority (NFA) is concerned about the few structural fire incidents that occurred last week.
NFA chief executive officer, Puamau Sowane’s office has issued a stern warning to all home and property owners to be very mindful of the impact of fires and are asking the general public to remain fire conscious at all times.
