Families of 18 houses in lockdown at Namara Tiri Settlement in Labasa have received food rations.

Charan Jeath Singh group of company’s operations manager Jitendra Kumar said they initially prepared 50 food packs to assist families in the lockdown area.

He said it had been their civil duty to assist the needy families after cyclones. He said the pandemic was no different.

“Families have reached out to Mr Singh seeking his assistance and we arranged the food packs to be delivered to them knowing they didn’t have much time in preparing for the lockdown, “Mr Kumar said.

“Seeing the smiles on their faces appreciate the food packs is worth it knowing someone will not go to sleep hungry.”

The ration packs contained basic food items such as rice, sugar, flour, milk, tea, tuna, potatoes, garlic, and onions.

During a phone interview, resident, Mohammed Anwar Safiq Ali, said they were grateful for the donations of food rations because they were not prepared for the sudden lockdown.

“On Wednesday night officials in Government vehicles announced that we were going to be on lockdown because of the positive cases in the community. We had no time to store food,” Mr Ali said.

“We have not done any shopping and have our children’s needs to provide for as well as milk and diapers.”

Mr Ali said that CJ Group of Companies was the first business house to deliver food rations to the community apart from the Government assistance.

Those who wish to donate can consider adding essential items for babies such as milk and diaper.
