Candidates for the top jobs in the disciplined forces have been shortlisted following interviews for the posts of Commissioner of Police and the Commander of the Republic of Fiji Military Forces.

After much speculation on who would be leading the nation’s military, four people were shortlisted.

They include current Commander Rear Admiral Viliame Naupoto, Director General for National Security and Defence Council Secretariat Brigadier-General Jone Kalouniwai, Fijian Navy Commander Captain (Navy) Humphrey Tawake and former Land Force Commander Colonel Manoa Gadai.

Each of the four candidates have the ability to lead the biggest defence force in the Pacific apart from Australia.

There are now 3500 regular soldiers and 6000 reservists.

For the Fiji Police Force, top cop Brigadier-General Sitiveni Qiliho, former Deputy Commissioner Rusiate Tudravu, Chief of Intelligence, Investigation and Prosecution at the Fiji Police Force, Assistant Commissioner Biu Matavou, retired officer Isei Raboiliku and United Nations Police Commissioner in South Sudan, Unaisi Vuniwaqa are in the race.

This lays to rest months of speculation as to who will be going where to head the respective disciplined forces. The vacancies for the top jobs were advertised in January this year.

It is believed that the Constitutional Officers Commission would make the announcement later after scrutinising the outcome of the interviews. No timeline has been given yet.
