Tui Macuata Ratu Wiliame Katonivere is encouraging Fijians to come forward and receive their second jab of the COVID-19 vaccine.

Ratu Wiliame said people must walk into the available centres now and get their second jab to be fully vaccinated so that the country reaches herd immunity to protect loved ones and get things back to normal.

Head of Fiji’s COVID-19 task force, Dr Rachel Devi, said the only way to protect those who were not eligible to get vaccinated was to gain herd immunity.

As of yesterday, there are five active cases recorded in the Northern Division.

“People should continue to follow all the COVID-19 safety protocols by Ministry of Health to keep the case numbers low,” Ratu Wiliame said.

“Even five is a big number. So, let us work together in bringing that number down to zero cases for Macuata and the entire Northern Division.

“Those who are also conducting funerals must ensure approval from the health department, the presence of the police officers and limit the number of people attending as well,” he said.
