A schoolteacher, who went viral on TikTok for walking an extra mile to deliver worksheets to her students in the highlands of Sabeto in Nadi, has made a smart investment.

Amelia Katia, 30, who teaches Year Three at Sabeto District School, has decided to invest in a projector and personal computer to be installed in her classroom when school resumes next year. It costs her $1000.

She earlier told this newspaper that as a first-year teacher, she faced difficulties and challenges in terms of preparing worksheets with limited resources.

Her story was higlighted last week. In the face of hurdles, she never stopped believing in herself. She said that these tools would assist her in educating her students.

“With this lockdown, I have to plan ahead,” Mrs Katia said.

“I have now bought a set of personal computer (PC) and also a projector for the children learning when school re-opens,” she said.

Her husband, Inoke Katia, has rated his wife’s work highly. He also understands the scenario those in the teaching profession undergo during this pandemic.

“I personally thank the Ministry of Education and the Fijian Government for their support towards teachers at this point in time,” he said.

“We are facing difficult and challenging situations right now and we can’t wait for school to reopen. My wife is looking forward to meeting her students again.”
