Woman, 61, Among Victims Of Serious Crimes In August

Four men allegedly tied up a 61-year-old woman, assaulted her and then robbed her of $5700 in cash.
Two 36-year-old men, a 33-year-old man and a 26-year-old man were charged with aggravated robbery.
This, along with other serious crimes, make up the non-sexual offences data released by the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions. This relates to the number of formal indictments in the High Courts of Fiji throughout the month of August.
This data also includes offences committed by police officers. There were 15 people charged with a total of 20 counts of separate alleged incidents in August.
This included three charges of aggravated robbery, one of robbery, seven of aggravated burglary, seven of theft, one of act with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and one of breach of curfew.
Of the 17 accused persons, one was a juvenile who was charged alongside two others with aggravated burglary and theft of assorted items worth $1145 from a house.
There were 14 victims of the 20 counts of separate alleged incidents. There was one alleged incident where the accused and victim were related.
A 25-year-old man was charged with an act with intent to cause grievous bodily harm to his 21-year-old wife. The accused allegedly assaulted the victim with a knife and torch.
A 35-year-old man was charged with four counts of aggravated burglary and four counts of theft of assorted items worth $3000 from four separate shops. The accused was also charged with breaching curfew orders.
A 22-year-old man and a 25-year-old man were charged with aggravated burglary and theft of assorted items worth $2224 from a house. An 18-year-old man was charged with attacking and robbing a taxi driver of $40 cash. A 25-year-old man was charged with aggravated robbery of mobile phones, electronics, and jewelry from three separate individuals.
An 18-year-old man was charged with the robbery of a mobile phone from a 58-year-old man however, this matter was discontinued because of insufficient evidence.
