Osea Bola, A Great Sports Writer To The End
Fiji Sun Sports Editor Osea Bola.

This week, we farewell a legendary and dedicated sports writer.

Osea Bola, known fondly by colleagues and his expansive network by his initials, OB.

OB died at his home on Monday morning after an illness.

He was 65.

Behind this tall, lanky, often quiet, and serious looking man was a journalist with a wealth of writing experience in the sports world.

A man whom, if you did not know him, was hard to understand vocally, but one rich with words and with a network and loyal readers many in sports journalism could only dream of.

It was evident in the traction he gained on social media from his insightful and no-nonsense style of writing which could make athletes, coaches and administrators cringe.

His final sign-off as a great sports journalist was in our Weekend Edition titled: Heed Call from our Super-men.

This piece speaks to Drua hopefuls on the advice from veteran Fijian rugby players who’ve been part of the Super Rugby, namely Filimoni Delasau and Sireli Naqelevuki.

This was another example that OB knew his stuff through and through, was on-point and used it well in his assertive writing.

He began his writing in the old Daily Post, moved to The Fiji Times then joined the Fiji Sun from 2004 until his death.

In the Fiji Sun newsroom, OB often paced from one end to the other looking for inspiration with hands in his sulu vaka taga and shared a light moment with colleagues with that signature crackling laugh of his.

To his family, friends and network OB was a one-of-kind sports journalist and will be sorely missed at the Fiji Sun.

Especially by the journalists he mentored and shared his wit and wisdom with.

Rest easy OB, the sports world and journalism in the country was made more credible because of your contribution.
