Arson has been ruled out as cause of the fire which destroyed two buildings in Suva and Ba on August 1.

On the same day the Tappoos Warehouse in Raiwaqa, Suva and the Ba Central Market Arcade had caught fire.

Speaking to the Fiji Sun yesterday, National Fire Authority chief executive officer, Puamau Sowane, said the causes for both the fires were quite clear.

“We have already determined the cause and it is electrical-related,” Mr Sowane said.

“For both fires arson is not the cause after our findings.”

NFA had also partnered with the Country Fire Authority (CFA) in Victoria, Australia to find a cause for the fires.

“With our counterpart in Australia, Country Fire Authority, we only discuss with them our findings,” he said.

He added NFA investigation officers had also worked alongside Energy Fiji Limited (EFL) for the duration of the investigations.
