A village that was underwater during Tropical Cyclone Yasa is assisting repatriation families by supplying food to the quarantine facilities.

Cogea Village in Wainunu, Bua headman, Tekini Nairibuli, said it was the first time for them to help out in supplying food for those in quarantine.

“Rise Beyond the Reef is the non-government organisation that is leading the rehabilitation process for us here in Cogea,”Mr Nairibuli said.

“We have planted vegetables and crops to ensure food security.

“We have replenished our farms and have enough, so we decided to assist the Government by supplying food to quarantine facilities at Labasa College and Malau.

“We are giving back to communities and the people in quarantine affected by this pandemic. We know how it feels when you don’t have anything to eat as it was the case for us after TC Yasa.

Mr Nairibuli said even though they’re still struggling to cope with what TC Yasa did to them last year, they want to show they’re resilient.

“We hope the Government quicken its process in relocating our village because the cyclone season is fast approaching,” Mr Nairibuli said.
