An Ukraine-registered aircraft caused an online stir when it landed in Nadi yesterday

The Antonov Airlines flight that emanated from Toulouse, France, on September 6, stopped over at Nadi International Airport for refuelling, Fiji Airports said.

Fiji Airports said the Antonov-124-100 aircraft landed at Nadi International Airport at 9:05am for a refuelling stopover, before departing at 11am.

Flight history

The An-124-100 left France for New York on September 8, before heading to Alaska where it had two stops – at Fairbanks and Anchorage.

The aircraft then departed for Honolulu, according to flightradar24, a widely recognised flight tracking app.

The cargo carrier arrived in Nadi briefly before continuing to Madagascar on September 13, according to the flight listing at Nadi airport.

What cargo

SunBiz’ queries to Antonov Airlines remained unanswered.

An-124-100s reportedly stopped over in Fiji in 2012, 2017 and 2019.

The Ukrainian-built aircraft is powered by four engines.

Antonov Airlines is a Ukrainian cargo airline, which operates international charter services in the oversized-cargo market.

The company owns the only completed Antonov An-225 Mriya, the world’s largest operational cargo aircraft.

Until the Boeing 747-8F, the An-124 was, for 30 years, the world’s heaviest gross weight production cargo airplane and second heaviest operating cargo aircraft, behind the one-off Antonov An-225 Mriya (a greatly enlarged design based on the An-124), Wikipedia reports.

The An-124 model remains the largest military transport aircraft in service since it was first flown in 1982.

Antonov Airlines has seven An124-100 aircraft in its fleet.
