A 100-year-old Navua resident is urging Fijians to vaccinate in order protect themselves and their loved ones

Raj Kuar of Tokotoko backroad, Navua, has taken her first jab and is due for her second later next week.

The bedridden, Mrs Kuar said she was regularly informed of COVID-19 by her great granddaughter-in-law, who looks after her and ensures that all safety measures are followed when visited by relatives and neighbours.

“Since I am bedridden, I pray most of my time for the better well-being of all Fijians and our country to be COVID-free,” Mrs Kuar said.

The centenarian, who is commonly known as ‘Nani’ (grandmother), by neighbours and relatives said she had never seen a disease with such impact on people and economy worldwide.

“I request everyone to get vaccinated and adhere to Government COVID-safety guidelines, as the news of 530-plus Fijians dying to this deadly pandemic is scary,” she said.

Her great granddaughter-in-law, Rofina Saulo, said Mrs Kuar has been asking to be kept updated on her second jab date and is aware of the necessity of it.

“After one of Nani’s great grandsons was told to self-isolate at home following a positive test result for COVID-19, she is more conscious now, and wants to get her second jab to be fully vaccinated,” Mrs Saulo said.
