Family members of soldiers deployed to support the Ministry of Health and Medical Services-led national COVID-19 operations were thanked by the Republic of Fiji Military Forces Commander Rear Admiral Viliame Naupoto.

A vast number of soldiers are now deployed in Kadavu and working tirelessly in a collective bid to contain the virus and halt the spread of infection.

Mr Naupoto said he was happy with the work the RFMF troops were doing with the government team in Kadavu and in the other areas they were deployed to.

“A big vinaka vakalevu to the family members of these deployed troops for enduring the prolonged periods of absence from home of their loved ones,” he said.

“We do provide some time off work when they return so they can make up for the absence and have some quality time with their families.

“I am mindful of the approaching cyclone season given the heavy involvement of RFMF in Housing Assistance and Disaster Relief-related work, but I am optimistic, given the timely progress made in containing this virus.

“The RFMF should be able to deploy unhindered if a natural disaster strikes and provide assistance to those in need.”

The RFMF Commander urged Fijians to get vaccinated with both doses because that would allow first responders to deploy quickly and safely to help those in need during this cyclone season.

“When you are fully vaccinated you not only provide protection to yourself and those around you, but you have contributed in a big way to the state of readiness to help others in times of natural disaster,” he said.
