The Fiji Police Force is tracking down locals who have created a Viber group where nude images, videos, and contacts of local girls are being shared.

The group – only locals fiji – was created earlier this month and had 312 Red Zone, all men, when this edition went to press.

Fiji Sun had earlier highlighted the faces behind a similar group two years ago. Viber acted and the community was taken down.

Commissioner of Police Brigadier-General Sitiveni Qiliho said the Police Cyber Crime Unit would investigate this matter.

“It is illegal to do these things and if you are caught, you will have to face the consequences because we will charge you and produce you in court,” he said.

Police will look at charging people involved and participants of this group, with offences such as trafficking in pornography, trafficking obscene pictures.

If it is being used for bribery, the Police would look at bribery and criminal intimidation charges on threatening people to release those photos.

Brigadier-General Qiliho said dealing with people under our current law would be how this could stop such offences taking place.

He said there were people in our society who were into these types of pornographic activities.

“It is illegal to get involved in creating such groups and sharing of pornographic photos and videos,” Brigadier-General Qiliho said.

“We will deal with them and dealing with them promptly would be a good deterrent in stopping them.

“Thanks to Fiji Sun and the media that highlight and report on such crimes taking place in the society. There have been people charged in the past for such criminal activities and produced in court, however, I am not aware of a group like this.”

Brigadier-General Qiliho called on parents, society leaders, and religious and youth groups to talk about these issues.

“It is normally a taboo subject normally not openly discussed and if it is discussed on the illegality and morality issues, it will help us in a big way,” he said.

Fiji Sun has managed to gather details of some members in the group
