The Ministry for Education, Heritage and Arts has advised all heads of schools, teachers and ancillary staff who are fully vaccinated to return to work from Monday, 20 September 2021.

They will assist the Ministry of Health and Medical Services in the School Vaccination Programme.

As per the announcement made by the Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama on Thursday night, Viti Levu containment borders have been lifted.

Teachers should now be able to travel to their respective schools.

Public transport is now fully operational, so all fully vaccinated teachers are required to report to work. Teachers should resume duties and prepare for school reopening.

A circular has been released to Heads of Schools detailing these arrangements.

We are grateful to our teachers who are assisting the MOHMS in data verification and other national duties.

We encourage them to continue with this work.

The Ministry of Education will be working with the Ministry of Health and Medical Services and from Monday next week.

The Student Vaccination Programme will be rolled out in all four divisions. School Vaccination Clusters have been formed to facilitate vaccination of eligible children aged between 15 to 17 years with the Moderna vaccine.

The ministry encourages parents and guardians to register their children online prior to the vaccination.

Parents and guardians will have to provide consent before vaccination as no student will get vaccinated without parent or guardian consent.

As of 3rd June 2021, WHO has evaluated that the vaccines offered in Fiji have met the necessary criteria for safety and efficacy. Also, vaccines have saved millions of lives over the years.

Minister for Education Premila Kumar, says, “I strongly advise parents to get their children vaccinated as vaccines provide a high degree of protection to our children from getting seriously ill from this deadly virus.”
