Linz Supermarket was one of the four business outlets in Main Street, Nadi which was damaged in a fire last year.

However, supermarket owners Atish Maharaj and Leena Raman rose from the ashes and opened their new supermarket Food King Supermarket last year. They also ventured into a restaurant which opened last month.

Originally from Nalovo, Nadi, Ms Raman described the new venture, Food King Restaurant, as her dream.

“I have always had an interest in cooking and catering,” she said.

“We first opened the Food King supermarket, and after successfully rebuilding for one year, we managed to open this restaurant.”

The restaurant offers a variety of cuisines, be it Indian or Chinese dishes.

Ms Raman said the restaurant was a testimony of the hard work that persisted even when their first business had burnt down.

She described the passion for cooking and hard work as the force behind the new venture.

“We were always eager to do things, ‘’ she said.

“There are plans of expansion.

“If we can expand in this pandemic, we could do it again, ‘’ she said.

Despite the global pandemic, Ms Raman and her husband continue to employ people .

The restaurant employs four staff members while the supermarket employs 15.

The restaurant is open seven days a week from 8 am to 5 pm.
