A new contingent of Australian doctors and nurses have arrived in Fiji to support the country as it begins its recovery from COVID-19.

Following a request by the Fijian Government, the nine Australian medical professionals will be working alongside their colleagues at the Ministry of Health and Medical Services to support the COVID-19 response across the country.

Australian High Commissioner to Fiji, John Feakes, said, “Australia is pleased to have supported Fiji right from the start of the pandemic and we will continue to do so as Fiji begins its recovery from this dreadful disease.”

“COVID-19 continues to reveal the strong bonds between our medical professionals as they work together to save lives and ensure Fiji gets back to normalcy as quickly as possible,” the High Commissioner continued.

These new arrivals follow the successful deployments of Australian New Zealand Medical Assistance Teams (ANZMAT) between June and September this year.

The medical professionals include six doctors and nurses supported by the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons and two nurses and a doctor (working remotely from Australia) supported by the Australian National Critical Care and Trauma Response Centre.

Australia remains committed to supporting our vuvale as we reach new milestones in the fight against COVID-19 in Fiji.
