Woman In Alleged Robbery Of $50K Cash, Items

A woman in her 40s has been charged with aggravated robbery for allegedly robbing a 65-year-old woman of $50,000 in cash and other items.
The accused, Reshmi Lata Prasad, appeared before Magistrate Waleen George at the Magistrates Court in Suva yesterday.
The alleged incident occurred along Waimanu Road in Suva last week.
The accused is alleged to have robbed the complainant of the money with her handbag, jewellery, mobile phones, and USD$300. The items and cash were valued at $60,946.11.
The court heard that the complainant received the cash from the sale of her property.
Police prosecutor Sitiveni Baleitaveuni told the court that the accused was an alleged first offender and that partial recovery was made in the case.
Magistrate George said the above reason did not warrant the accused bail and remanded Prasad in custody at the Women’s Remand Centre.
She adjourned the matter for mention on September 29.
