COVID-Admissions Drop – Dr James Fong Still Urges Caution

The Ministry of Health and Medical Services has noted a significant drop in severe COVID-19 cases in the country over the past week.
Permanent Secretary for Health and Medical Services, Dr James Fong, said to date, there were 88 COVID-19 patients admitted in hospitals.
He said 41 patients were admitted at the Lautoka Hospital and 47 were admitted at the Colonial War Memorial Hospital, St Giles, and Makoi.
Of this, 6 patients were considered to be in severe condition, while 4 were in critical condition.
He added that while this was a positive sign, the key to avoiding future restrictions and lockdowns was for the public to remain cautious.
“The potential for transmission in any community will be slower, and the ability to contain the outbreak better, when we achieve a high vaccination rate and also maintain strict adherence to COVID-safe measures,” he said.
