Minute’s Silence For Fallen Comrades

Labasa Police Station officers and guests came together, under COVID-safe protocols, to remember their fallen colleagues.
The officers observed a minute of silence to remember fallen comrades.
It was noted that 12 Police officers had died between September 2020 to September 2021 with one was from the Northern Division.
Commissioner Northern Uraia Rainima said as they observed the occasion, it was equally important to observe the protocols in place.
“As key government agencies, it is important to lead by example and comply with the measures or protocols in place,” Mr Rainima said.
“COVID-19 cases in the Northern Division were fortunately not as widespread and through the hard work of all stakeholders, we were able to contain the virus from spreading.
“On the economic front, safety and security will be an important factor in the recovery phase.”
Mr Rainima said many had felt the economic impacts of the pandemic, with domestic and international travel affected.
He said that COVID-19 had taught important lessons and these were the value of time and family.
“As we commemorate the lives of the fallen officers it also gives us the opportunity to reevaluate our own lives and whether we are living a full and meaningful life,” Mr Rainima said.
“For those of us in the service industry, this is our time to make a difference to the lives of those we serve.
“It is important for us to continue to strengthen our working relations as our work family is literally our second family.”
