New Goundar Vessels To Boost Shipping Service

Goundar Shipping Limited is hoping to boost its shipping service through its two new passenger vessels that arrived at Mua-i-Walu Port on Tuesday.
All the way from Japan, Lomaiviti Princess 11 and Lomaiviti Princess were out at sea for more than 18 days before finally berthing in Mua-i-Walu Port.
Each vessel occupied nine crew members who manned the vessel to sail to Fiji.
Chief executive officer George Goundar said the future looks brighter for the company as the new passenger vessels would create 110 new jobs.
“We are not just about business, it’s about putting a better service to the travelling public, yes we are not perfect in some people’s eyes but we are improving shipping and moving the bar higher for more comfort, reliability service,” said Mr Goundar.
Mr Goundar said LP-11 will service two daily trips to Levuka, Natovi and Nabouwalu route while LP-12 will look after the lower and upper Lau area.
He said the people of Lau deserve better and faster ships as they were very supportive to the company.
Both vessels can travel up to 15 knots.
Mr Goundar said the company is now 10 years in operation and is one of the leading shipping company in Fiji with 12 ferries.
He said the company will continue to serve the outer islands as these are the areas that needed more shipping services.
