COVID-19 Cases Stable On Vanua Levu: Dr. James Fong

The Ministry of Health and Medical Services Permanent Secretary, Dr James Fong, says COVID-19 cases in the Northern Division are stable.
He said all cases that were tested positive were from the quarantine facility and quarantine confinement were tested.
“We are escalating our repatriation measures to Vanua Levu,” he said.
“We are trying to get as many people as safely as possible to the Northern Division.”
“It is a challenge, and I hope to revise some of the quarantine conditions based on the scientific evidence around the transmissibility around the Delta variant,” Dr Fong said.
New study
He added that there were some indications from studies that have come out from China that indicate that people were tested positive faster with the COVID-19 virus.
“It means that if the incubation is shorter, we can shorten the quarantine period but we still have to get some clarification around the science.”
“This is because it has gathered changes in other countries.”
“I just want to see that if we are going to reduce the quarantine area, are there any other safe measures that I have to take to mitigate any extra risk that may incur,” Dr Fong said.
