The number of jobs is expected to increase in the next few weeks.

This comment was made by Attorney-General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum during the Tourism Talanoa panel discussion on Sunday.

He said this following Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama’s address on international border reopening.

“We have already seen some of the hotels are reengaging their staff,” he said.

“We have to make use of these opportunities.”

He said Fiji Airways, being the national carrier, was instrumental in the country’s economic recovery.

Meanwhile, Minister for Commerce, Trade, Tourism and Transport Faiyaz Koya said the main objective of COVID-19 regulation relaxation was to return tourism to its former glory.

“So, tourists could get off the plane in Nadi, cruise to an outer island and take a village tour,” he said.

“But this can’t and won’t happen until every corner of Fiji is vaccinated.”

Mr Sayed-Khaiyum shared the same sentiments.

He said villages in the red zones around the country needed to get vaccinated to enjoy the economic benefits tourism could offer.

“The success in terms of opening our borders is because of vaccination,” he said.

Mr Sayed-Kaiyum cited Fiji’s high vaccination rates being monumental to be considered a tourist destination.
