The Savusavu Town Council has commenced with their Town Beautification project to uplift the appearance and add value to their town’s tourist reputation.

Restructure and development

Council chief executive officer, Seema Dutt, said they had already begun restructuring the old gardens into newly designed gardens in the town premises.

The new design incorporates a wooden structure for the garden where the provisions of benches are made available for sitting purposes.

The previous design was constructed using rock alignment.

Ms Dutt said moving forward, they would have the same design of planters all throughout the town.

She said four gardens had so far been restructured and constructed while 10 other planters were expected to be developed in the coming months.

Ms Dutt said the council had spent $3500 for the restructuring and development of the four gardens.

Tourist attaction

“Beautification is really important for the touristy status of the town as visitors arriving in from abroad or local people will want to see the beautiful locations that are available in Savusavu,” she said.

This, she mentioned, would help to attract and increase visitor numbers once borders reopened because they would want to leave behind nice memories.

Meanwhile, Savusavu Chamber of Commerce and Industries President Ravi Chhaganlal commended the council on this development.

Mr Chhaganlal stated the development would increase the town’s green space which would bolster the tourism activity and bring a positive and changed vibe to Savusavu.

“On behalf of the business community, we support this initiative and hope more similar initiatives would be carried out again,” he added.
