Police In Porn Scandal

Police officers are now under the spotlight for allegedly sharing pornographic materials on a Viber group.
Commissioner of Police, Brigadier-General Sitiveni Qiliho, confirmed that the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) had started its investigations after Police highlighted a social media post alleging Police officers sharing pornographic materials.
Commissioner Qiliho personally ordered the investigation after seeing evidence.
It is understood that a prominent local athlete exposed a social media chat group of police officers allegedly distributing pornographic materials believed to be both local and foreign content.
Brigadier-General Qiliho said the Fiji Police Force was alerted to the social media post on Monday.
“We have started with our investigations to find out who is involved in it, but it is certainly that athlete’s partner, who is also a police officer, was involved in the group,” he said.
“We are in the process of extracting information on the athlete’s post.
“There is a possibility that there is a group sharing the pornographic materials who are all Police officers.
“The post was later deleted; however, we had managed to receive the snapshot of the post and investigate, which is conducted by the Cybercrime unit in the Criminal Investigations Department.”
According to Section 377 of the Crimes Act 2009 in Fiji, traffic in obscene publications carries a maximum penalty of five years imprisonment or a fine of $4000 or both.
