The youngest victim in a family of three, who were hospitalised because of a motor vehicle accident on Monday, has been discharged from the Lautoka Hospital.

This was confirmed by Police media officer Wame Bautolu yesterday.

“The youngest victim has been discharged from hospital, while his parents are still admitted for injuries sustained and the driver is yet to be charged as investigations are continuing,” he said.

“We are calling out to all drivers to drive slowly with care, especially along Velovelo.

“The victim was standing on the tramline with his parents at Velovelo, Lautoka, on Monday when all three of them were hit by a black twin cab driving towards Nadi from the Sugar City and driven by a 45-year-old man.

“He allegedly lost control of the vehicle and veered off-road while trying to overtake a probox car.

“The impact of the accident catapulted the child to the front of a gate leading to an industrial site just metres away from where his parents lay near the tramline.”

The vehicle allegedly veered across the road hitting another man who was standing at the bus shelter.
