While unemployed and celebrating their son’s first birthday last year, Vilitati Soro, 23 and Salote Rasovo Soro, 22 knew they had to find work to support their family.

The young couple from Kasavu Village, outside Nausori, decided that they would put Mr Soro’s creativity and Ms Soro’s graphic design knowledge to good use.

“We started the business not only to support us financially but to provide jobs and a purpose for young people in Kasavu as it is hard to find work nowadays,” Ms Soro said.

They currently have one employee to help them with the business.

The couple sells their unique designed materials through their Facebook page Tieri.

Ms Soro said Tieri is a Rotuman flower, and they chose this name as it signified beauty and uniqueness.

“We also chose the name to show a family link to our multicultural family as my children’s grandmother is from Rotuma,” Ms Soro said.

Designs

Ms Soro said Tieri designs included more of Fiji’s traditional artifacts and flowers with different colours – making it stand out while displaying Fiji’s beauty.

She said while they are new to the business, they are thankful for their families, friends and especially their customers support and for believing in them.

“Screen printing involves commitment and hard work. We would like to thank the Lord first for leading us to this path.

“I would like to thank my aunty Tale for teaching me on how to use the stencil for printing at a younger age and both our parents for their support.”
