Fiji Football Association north development officer Sanaila Bera is assisting Labasa in their Digicel Premier League preparation.

Bera has been assisting coach Ravnil Pratap during their three sessions a day.

“We hope to improve the fitness level of the players because of the long COVID break. This has had an impact on the players,” Pratap said.

“We continue to focus on our goal scoring prowess and fitness levels as we prepare for our DPL matches,” he said.

“Defensively the players have been performing in the league, however, their attacking game needs to change for the better.

The Babasiga Lions have kept a clean sheet and conceded no goals in this league season they hope that this trend continues throughout their remaining matches.

Labasa is third on the points table with 10 points. Top of the table is Lautoka with 13 points and second is Rewa on 11 points.

Labasa and Lautoka rest this week.

“We have a good young and experienced set of players who are willing to deliver their best performances once we get in,”. Bera said.

“So far, so good at training as we are trying to return to vigorous training sessions again,” the former national rep said.

“We have working players attending early morning sessions starting at 5am daily while the other sessions at 10am and 4pm are for non-working players”.

He said they are working on increasing and ironing out ball skills so that players could adapt to the possession based aspect of the game.

“We need to be technically smart in our game plan so that we are able to create goal scoring chances and put the opposition under constant pressure.”

There are currently six Labasa football players part of the national men’s football team.

They are undergoing their training sessions in Labasa to stay in shape for both national and district duties.

The six players are Lekima Gonerau, Ilisoni Logaivau, Melvin Mani, Pawan Singh, Sitiveni Rakai and Ashneel Raju.
