14 Swire Vessels To Be Renamed After Pacific Island Nations Or Locations
Swire Shipping’s cargo vessel Suva Chief, one of several vessels that have been renamed after a Pacific Islands.

Swire Shipping Pte Ltd is embarking on renaming 14 of its vessels after a Pacific Island nation or location.

The move is to showcase and honor the company’s links to the Pacific region with which they’ve had a long history with.

 

Significance Of New Names
The vessel names will be standardised to include the term ‘Chief’ in celebration of Swire Shipping’s heritage in Melanesia, Micronesia and Polynesia.

Regional manager Alex Pattison said the renaming would also take place over the next few months to deepen Swire Shipping’s brand association with the Pacific.

“Some are already in use and we expect the majority to be concluded by year’s end.”

Serving The Pacific
As the company will be commemorating its 150th anniversary next year, Mr Pattison added that Swire Shipping will continue to serve Fiji.

“We have been servicing Fiji for over 50 years and we want to continue for another 50.”

“All our staff have been fully employed through this period and are very glad to say 100 percent of our staff are fully vaccinated.

“We would like to take this opportunity to thank them for all their support to the company and our customers throughout the last 18 months.”

 

Last month, its parent company China Navigation Company Pte. Ltd. (CNCo) had announced its renaming to Swire Shipping Pte. Ltd. (Swire Shipping).

This is part of a strategy to streamline its brands, and present customers and stakeholders with a consistent and unified experience across its product offerings.

–  Shengking – Kiribati Chief
–  Siangtan – Honiara Chief
