Family values are degrading and people have forgotten the contribution of elders in the society, says Minister for Women, Children, Poverty Alleviation and Social Welfare Rosy Akbar. The minister was part of the Diwali celebrations at the Golden Age Home in Samabula yesterday.

“This is Diwali and family members should be here for their loved ones. As a society, people have forgotten to care for their elderly,” Ms Akbar said.

“I know many of you have been left here by your family members and they have not come back to see you.

“But fear not, the ministry will look after you, they will take care of you. We are one big family.”
