Families Who Lost Home in Fire Show Solidarity

Families living at Wrong Turn Road in Sakoca, Tamavua did not decorate their homes with Diwali lights to show solidarity for five families who lost their homes to a fire last Sunday.
Sakoca resident Anuradhika Devi said it was an act of support appreciated by everyone.
Ms Devi said her sister’s home was also destroyed by the fire.
She said no one in the community decorated their home with Diwali lights but lit a diya.
“Every now and then people went and checked the diya because the fire last week really frightened some people,” she said.
“All five families were supplied with food and sweets.”
Donations
In the past week, Political party members from the National Federation Party, FijiFirst and the Fiji Labour Party visited the five families.
Minister for Women, Children, Poverty Alleviation and Social Welfare Rosy Akbar also visited the families.
There have been donations and money given to all families.
All donations were stored at Ms Devi’s house.
She said all five families will come together and sort out the clothes that have been given and share other items like mattresses and food items.
The fire incident is alleged to be the work of arsonists and a woman was questioned in relation to this.
Police spokesperson Ana Naisoro said they would look at charges once the National Fire Authority report is given to them.
