Ampra Shopping Mart The Liquor Bank owner Ashwin Prasad thanked his late father Ambika Prasad for his investment in the family business, a commercial venture that began in 2005.

Mr Prasad said despite not doing well in school, his interest in business paid off.

The 37-year-old now manages his new and revamped mini supermarket that was developed during the second wave of the pandemic this year.

The new supermarket opened last month at Delailabasa, a few kilometres away from Labasa Town.

“I used the COVID-19 lockdown to carry out renovations, as the risk of losing profits was low,” he said.

“I was determined to expand my business space from a dairy shop to a demanding mini supermarket.

“I had faith in my customers that they would return to make sale.”

Mr Prasad said the decision to redevelop the area was owed to the high residential demand for a mini supermarket.

He invested approximately $151,000 during the renovation stages.

“My mini supermarket is famously known for its wide range of wines and alcohol products, which inspired me to add the phrase The Liquor Bank to my business name,” Mr Prasad said.

Renovation began on August 10 and was completed in September.

The supermarket employs three staff.
