Fiji Football Waits For November 11 Announcement

The Labasa football team’s participation in the Digicel Premier League competition will be decided by Government’s COVID-19 announcement on Thursday, November 11.

This was confirmed to SUNsports yesterday by Fiji Football Association chief executive officer Mohammed Yusuf.

“If the November 11 announcement lifts quarantine measures (when travelling from Vanua Levu to Viti Levu and return) then Labasa can fly in to Viti Levu to play and fly back as well,” Yusuf said.

He said nothing has been confirmed about Labasa’s participation since they are waiting for the announcement.

The same also goes for the Labasa Women’s football team who are also playing in the Digicel Super Women’s League.

When contacted yesterday Labasa coach Ravneel Pratap said they are waiting for the approval from Fiji FA.

“Four of our players are in camp with the national team, two (Ilisoni Lolaivalu and Sitiveni Rakai) have been recruited by Police,” he said.

“It will surely affect the team’s performance because we are not training together.

“However, it will be an opportune time for younger players to prove themselves. We’re trying our best to prepare as other teams have already played their games and we’re on the disadvantaged side.”

According to the Fiji FA fixtures the Babasiga Lions are billed to play Rewa in Suva, this weekend
