Cop In Court For Bribery Charge

A Police Constable accused of soliciting $200 from a civilian, has been charged with one count of bribery by the Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC).

Adrian Joseph Mangru appeared before Anti-Corruption Division Magistrate Shirley Kiran at the Magistrates Court in Suva yesterday.

It is alleged that between October 22 and November 9, 2021, at Suva, Mangru being a public officer namely a Police Constable, solicited $200 from the complainant.

FICAC counsel served the first phase of disclosures and sought 21 days to file the second phase of disclosures in the case.

Bail

FICAC did not object to bail, however, sought strict bail conditions.

Magistrate Kiran granted bail to Mangru in the sum of $1000 non-cash bond.

Mangru’s two sureties were ordered to sign a bail bond of $1000 each.

Mangru is ordered to report to the FICAC office every second Friday of the month starting November 19.

He is also ordered not to re-offend, not to interfere with witnesses, and not to change his address without prior approval of the court.

Mangru was ordered to surrender all his travel documents and not to obtain any travel documents.

A stop departure order was also issued against him.

The matter has been adjourned to check on the second phase of disclosures on December 22.
