Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games gold medallist, Waisea Nacuqu, is going to play for Police Blue in today’s Super Sevens series at the ANZ Stadium, Suva. Police Blue have won the three previous tournaments and are now on track to grab the Series title.

Nacuqu’s Police Blue team-mate from the Olympic glory, Kalione Nasoko is now camping with the Fijian Drua squad in Australia for next February’s Super Rugby Pacific competition.

Also, with camping with Nasoko, is lanky Police Blue forward Rusiate Nasove and utility back Kitione Taliga.

Their biggest test today come from Police White who have the likes of Joseva Talacolo and veteran playmaker, Livai Ikanikoda.

Police Blue strength and conditioning coach Solomone Donu said they are aware of the struggle they would encounter in the two-day tournament.

“Especially, after we have not been playing rugby the past seven months,” he told FRU Media.

“The last three weeks we’ve been concentrating on our fitness because we know the combination is there. So we are only focused on our fitness.”

Donu said since they are leading the series, they are treating every game as final.

“The LAR Barbarians is second on the ladder but we’re not counting any team out since they will be aiming for a win to reach the final.

“Our objective remains and that is to win the cup and the series,” Donu added.

The Police Blue and White teams have been boosted with six members of the Fijian 7s extended squad members.

They are Terio Tamani, Talacolo, Rusiate Matai, Nacuqu, Filipe Sauturaga and Ikanikoda.

Meanwhile, Eastern Saints one of the most improved team in the series have been drawn into Pool C where they face Army, Dominion Brothers and Nawaka.

The Seremaia Bai-coached Saints reached the Cup quarterfinals of the Savusavu leg of the series where they lost 10-5 to eventual winners Police Blue.

Also, the Axellerate sponsored Stallions are expected to field a couple of former   national reps who are trying to make a comeback.

It is understood the Stallions have the services of Peceli Nacebe. Also, a possible return of former Flying Fijians flanker Semi Kunatani

The competition kicks off at 9am.
