People living in the rural communities will now be able to access quality hardware and consumer goods.

This is after Vinod Patel Pte Limited signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the South Pacific Business Development(SPBD) at its headquarters, Suva yesterday.

The MOU is the joint agreement between the two stakeholders to work strategically together to improve the general livelihood of average Fijians in rural areas.

While Vinod Patel is renewing its contract, their Home and Living division joins the partnership for the first time.

SPBD director Lorraine Seeto said their commitment was aimed at women, especially to those who are part of the SPBD family.

“Thank you to the executives and technical staff who convinced the Board of Vinod Patel that this unique partnership with SPBD is an excellent collaboration paving the way for women to improve the quality of life for themselves and their families.

“It is very rewarding as a Director of SPBD Fiji to see the outcomes and fruits of our labour,” she said.

Challenges
Ms Seeto said their members find it extremely difficult to borrow from mainstream financial institutions, but through their SPBD membership they are able to obtain finance, be provided with financial literacy.

“In fact, our relationship with our MOU with Vinod Patel entitles our members to have the opportunity to buy in every major town offering over 15,000 stocked products.”

“I remember going to the north to disburse funds electronically earlier this year and the demand for materials for rehabilitation was huge just after the cyclones.”

“It is stated that Vinod Patel and Home and Living are two of the largest retail brands in Fiji,” she said.

Vinod Patel Pte Limited Chief Executive Officer Rahul Amin said with co-operation with the SPBD their intention is to increase our reach and assist the women in rural areas.

“With relationship SBPD has and the reach they have, we were able to get our products to these people and to help the overall livelihood of the women and children in these villages.”

“Like all technology making you more efficient, instead of washing clothes by hand you can throw them in the twin tub washer and get your work done quicker,” he said.

Vinod Patel Pte Limited general manager for Home and Living Division Ronald Narayan said with this co-operation agreement between the two companies they would be able to serve the women and their respective families in the rural communities.

“With both Vinod Patel and Home and Living you get a complete home and building solutions on products such as the agriculture tools, cement, timber, kitchen appliances, sofa sets and many other products.”

“The agreement falls under Vinod Patel’s corporate social responsibility charter.”

“Vinod Patel continuously identifies suitable partnership that support entrepreneurship and economic empowerment for Fijians,” he said.
