Australia’s Minister for International Development and the Pacific Senator Zed Seselja commended Fijian media for their efforts in promoting free press.

He said it was critical not only to the community but especially in keeping public officers in check.

Senator Seselja was speaking to the members of the media fraternity on Tuesday night in a Press Club hosted by the Australian High Commission at Suva Bowling Club.

 

His interactions with local journalists in the past few days had been on issues including economic recovery, environment and climate change, health and education.

 

“It can be an intense relationship with the press but it’s important for the community that we have a free press,” Senator Seselja said.

He said it was a pleasure to be welcomed by the Fijian people.

Fiji is known for its natural beauty and hospitality.

 

“There’s a lot that connects Australians and Fijians and one of them is sports,” he said while highlighting his Silktails visit and the major Drua sponsorship.

Senator Seselja shared Prime Minister Scott Morison’s wishes in cherishing the Fijian Vuvale and love for Fiji adding that Fiji is a leader in the Pacific and a key relationship to Australia with so much that unites both countries.
